The Fair-Haired Dumbbell


Diggable Monkey is excited to be working with Kevin Cavanaugh's Guerrilla Development to document the painting process of one of Portland's most exciting new building developments, the Fair-Haired Dumbbell. A two canted six-story tower commercial building joined by 5 walk ways, the Dumbbell does little to skip on the whimsy. Eight sides of the structure and roof are being hand painted with an original design created by renowned illustrator artist, James Jean. Local mural artist Dan Cohen Creative Labs was selected to execute the painting and will spend 5 1/2 months completing the task. Situated on a major high-profile intersection along the east side of the Willamette at E. Burnside and MLK Blvd., the Dumbbell commands high visibility and is likely to become one of the city's most iconic structures.
